Sony is once again increasing the cost of its PlayStation Plus subscription service, with new pricing set to take effect on May 20, 2026. The company says the changes are being made due to “ongoing market conditions,” continuing a trend of rising gaming costs across the industry.
According to Sony, the updated pricing will primarily affect new subscribers in select regions. A one-month PlayStation Plus Essential subscription will increase from $9.99 to $10.99 in the United States, while the three-month option jumps from $24.99 to $27.99. Similar increases are also being introduced in Europe and the United Kingdom.
Current subscribers will reportedly keep their existing pricing unless their membership expires, changes tiers, or lapses. However, Sony confirmed that users in Turkey and India will immediately see the higher rates regardless of their current subscription status.
At the moment, Sony has not announced changes to the annual PlayStation Plus membership plan, which many gamers consider the best value option. The company also has not clarified whether the Extra and Premium tiers will receive future price adjustments.
The increase comes shortly after Sony raised prices for the PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 Pro earlier this year, citing global economic pressures and rising hardware costs.
Reaction online has been mixed, with many players criticizing Sony’s explanation while others believe increasing infrastructure and service costs are contributing factors. Discussions across Reddit and gaming forums have pointed to rising data center expenses, inflation, and broader industry pricing trends as possible reasons behind the move.
