Strauss Zelnick Reaffirms Grand Theft Auto VI Release Date Amid Delay Rumors

Rockstar Games

Strauss Zelnick is once again reassuring fans that Grand Theft Auto VI remains on track for its scheduled release date despite growing rumors surrounding the game’s development timeline.

During a recent investor discussion, the Take-Two Interactive CEO reaffirmed that GTA VI is still expected to launch in May 2026, pushing back against speculation that another delay could be coming. Zelnick reportedly stated that the company feels confident about the current release window and emphasized that Rockstar Games is focused on delivering a polished experience worthy of the franchise’s legacy.

The comments arrive at a critical time for the gaming industry, especially after recent rumors suggested the title may have fallen significantly behind its original internal schedule. Those reports fueled concerns among fans that Rockstar could eventually move the release even further into the future. However, Zelnick’s latest remarks appear aimed at calming investor and community concerns.

Earlier this year, Rockstar Games officially delayed GTA VI from its original 2025 launch target to May 2026. At the time, the studio explained that the additional development time would help ensure the game meets the extremely high expectations surrounding one of gaming’s most valuable franchises.

Despite the delay, anticipation for GTA VI continues to dominate the gaming world. The game’s debut trailer broke viewing records almost immediately after release, while fans continue analyzing every screenshot and rumor tied to the project. Industry analysts widely expect GTA VI to become one of the biggest entertainment launches in history once it finally arrives.

Zelnick also reiterated Take-Two’s long-term confidence in Rockstar’s development process, noting that the company prefers allowing studios the time needed to achieve high-quality results instead of rushing products to market. That approach has historically worked well for Rockstar, whose major releases often generate record-breaking sales and critical acclaim.

Although Rockstar has remained relatively quiet about new gameplay reveals and future trailers, Zelnick’s comments suggest the publisher currently has no plans to alter the May 2026 release target. Still, fans remain cautious given Rockstar’s history of delays and the enormous scale of the upcoming title.

For now, Take-Two appears committed to the current launch date, giving players renewed hope that GTA VI’s long-awaited release may finally be approaching.
