The long-awaited live-action Call of Duty movie finally has an official release date. Paramount and Activision confirmed the film will hit theaters on June 30, 2028, ending years of rumors and stalled development for one of gaming’s biggest franchises.

The movie is being directed by Peter Berg, known for action-heavy projects like Lone Survivor and Deepwater Horizon. Acclaimed writer and producer Taylor Sheridan, the creator behind Yellowstone, is also attached to co-write and produce the film.

According to reports from CinemaCon 2026, the project aims to capture the realism, emotional intensity, and large-scale military action that made the Call of Duty franchise a global phenomenon. Activision president Rob Kostich reportedly emphasized that the filmmakers want the movie to feel “real” while still delivering the blockbuster spectacle fans expect from the series.

A Call of Duty movie has been discussed for more than a decade. Activision originally announced plans for a cinematic universe back in 2015, but the project faced multiple delays and eventually went quiet. The film was revived after Paramount partnered with Activision in 2025, giving the adaptation new momentum.

While plot details and casting information remain under wraps, fans are already speculating about whether the movie will focus on the Modern Warfare storyline, the Black Ops universe, or create an entirely original military narrative inspired by the games. With the franchise generating billions in revenue and maintaining one of the largest fanbases in gaming history, expectations for the film are sky-high.
