Sony is ramping up its marketing push for Grand Theft Auto VI by encouraging PlayStation 4 owners to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 ahead of the game’s launch later this year.
According to multiple reports, Sony has started sending emails and console notifications directly to PS4 users who either have GTA 6 wishlisted or are active players of Grand Theft Auto V. The messages reportedly tell players to “Get a PlayStation 5 today to be ready for when Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19, 2026.”
The campaign is significant because GTA 6 is confirmed to launch only on current-generation hardware, including PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. There are no announced versions for PS4 or Xbox One, making the upgrade unavoidable for last-gen players hoping to jump into Rockstar’s next blockbuster on day one.
Many fans see the messaging as a sign that Sony and Rockstar are entering the next phase of the game’s marketing rollout. Community reactions online suggest players believe the aggressive push also signals confidence that the November 19 release date is locked in after earlier delays.
The timing also comes as Sony faces slowing PS5 hardware sales and recent price increases for the console. Analysts expect GTA 6 to become a major system seller capable of boosting PlayStation 5 demand worldwide once the game finally launches.
