Microsoft has introduced a major update to Xbox Game Pass pricing, signaling a shift in its long-term strategy. After multiple price increases over the past few years, the company is now lowering subscription costs while restructuring what each tier offers.

As of April 21, 2026, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate is now priced at $22.99 per month, down from its previous rate of $29.99, while PC Game Pass has dropped to $13.99. Microsoft appears to be responding to growing competition in the gaming subscription space, as well as feedback from users who felt prices were too expensive.

Despite the lower cost, the service remains a strong value. Subscribers still get access to a large library of games, including day-one releases from Xbox Game Studios. Unfortunately, new Call of Duty titles will no longer launch day one on Xbox Game Pass.

In short, Game Pass is becoming more affordable—but less focused on delivering huge AAA titles like Call of Duty on release day.
